ACDClogoThis Easter weekend happens to fall on the third weekend in April, which means only one thing: it’s time to cosplay as the Easter Bunny at AwesomeCon!

. . . okay, I won’t actually be in a bunny costume. But I will be at AwesomeCon. I was invited back to do another presentation at DC’s only genre convention (sorry, otaku, but Katsucon doesn’t count). I’ll be part of a panel this Friday at 4pm, called “Worldbuilding and Fantasy,” and giving a solo talk on Easter Sunday, “Writing Dynamic Characters,” at 11:15am.

I was at AwesomeCon last year, and it was pretty fun. It wasn’t the biggest convention I’ve ever been to (nor was it the smallest), but between what I observed and my brief conversations with Ben Penrod, the convention organizer, I could tell it wasn’t going to be satisfied with a small footprint.

Well, that footprint got larger, trading in a dainty size-6 for a massive 13½ in just one year, and threatening more growth for next year. Guests range from older stars like Dirk Benedict (the original A-Team and original Battlestar Galactica). Kevin Sorbo (Hercules), and Erin Gray (Buck Rogers), to current favorites and headliners like Billie Piper (Doctor Who), Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), J. August Richards (Angel and Agents of SHIELD), Jewel Saite and Ron Glass (Firefly), and what seems like half the cast of Walking Dead.

And if you think that isn’t enough, go read the full list. You’re not going to believe this is the guest list for a convention that’s only in its second year, much less for a weekend shared with a major religious/family-oriented holiday! Personally, I think I need to get some more Timothy Zahn books autographed. Even my non-geek sister-in-law Rachel is tagging along this year, just to see Cary Elwes (of Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men in Tights fame).

(She’s calling it the best birthday present ever, but I’m just smiling and nodding. My brother proposed to her on her birthday, and I’m sure she’ll remember that eventually.)

I hope to see some of you readers there. In fact, I’m going to offer a prize on the off chance you find me there. If you come up to me at the convention and say “Ninjas are Awesome,” you get to name one blog post that I have to do. Any topic, though since I’m still the one writing it you probably should pick something where I won’t talk about how you’re the worst fan ever. 🙂
